Ken Davis is the President of Maximize Communication Group, Inc., a San Bernandino-based utility infrastructure design installation company. He grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan and enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 18 years old. After 10 years of military service, he retired and planted roots in California.

Ken recalls sending out close to 300 resumes and not getting any callbacks until he landed a job at L.A. Cellular – known today as AT&T – an opportunity that opened the doors to his future in the wireless and internet telecom industry. Wanting to control his own destiny and success, he opened Maximize Communication Group, Inc. in 2007.

Ken turned to The Center by Lendistry in search of mentorship to help him see different ways of doing things for his business. He worked with a business advisor to get certifications like the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 8(a) Business Development program. Intended for underserved entrepreneurs, this certification allows him to compete for government contracts. He plans to pursue opportunities with LAMetro.

Ken had been working solely in telecom, but with the support of The Center, he expanded into the power sector, thus growing his business and offering additional services. With the help of his advisor, he secured a contract with Southern California Edison, the primary electricity supply company for much of Southern California.

Outside of running a successful business, Ken gives back to his community in several ways. He coaches basketball at a high school sports academy and is actively involved in his local small business community. Ken shares his knowledge and resources with first-time business owners, mentoring them in QuickBooks, marketing, and other common themes.

“Sharing my knowledge and resources is a must for me. I have had the opportunity to sit at big tables and gain an understanding of ownership and business. Most people from my community don’t have access to the means or knowledge to gain ownership or business experience, so I try to fill that void for first-time business owners,” said Ken.
