Throughout August, The Center, in partnership with City National Bank, celebrated Black Business Month by highlighting entrepreneurs whose work strengthens communities and creates opportunity. These spotlights show how Black-owned businesses continue to drive innovation and leadership across industries.

Justin Smith | Relequity

Justin Smith, founder of Relequity, is advancing real estate development with a focus on equity and long-term community impact. With more than 20 years of experience and over 1,500 housing units completed, Justin continues to guide housing and commercial projects that serve schools, universities, and cities. As a participant in The Center’s B.U.I.L.D. Incubator, he gained valuable tools and resources that support the firm’s ongoing growth.

Nicole “Coco” Green | Coco’s Lip-Smacking Cupcakes

Since 2013, Coco’s Lip-Smacking Cupcakes has been a favorite spot for made-from-scratch desserts across Los Angeles. Founder Nicole “Coco” Green expanded from one storefront to a food truck and cupcake cart, reaching more customers in new ways. Through The Center’s Digital Growth Accelerator, she refined her marketing approach and built new connections, opening doors for her business to grow.

Ian Elmore-Moore | Glaciers Italian Ice

In Atlanta, Glaciers Italian Ice is combining sweet treats with opportunities for young people. Founder Ian Elmore-Moore created the Youth Entrepreneurship Program, giving Black youth access to mentorship and jobs. Through the Beltline Business Ventures, a program launched by the Atlanta Beltline Business Solutions Office in partnership with The Center and CVM Worldwide to help small businesses grow, the Glaciers team gained tools to strengthen and expand their business. In May 2025, they celebrated a milestone with the opening of their first permanent shop.

Renea Ferrell | Klimt Consulting

Renea Ferrell founded Klimt Consulting LLC in 2017 to help government agencies, nonprofits, and community organizations design programs that connect families with vital resources. She has partnered with The Center to deliver initiatives such as the LA County Rent Relief Program and the LA County Household Relief Grant Program. Earlier this year, she reached a milestone by acquiring a commercial property in Inglewood, which will become Klimt Consulting’s permanent home.

Dr. Tina Armstrong | Living Connected M.B.S.
Dr. Tina Armstrong | Living Connected M.B.S.

Dr. Tina Armstrong created Living Connected M.B.S. to help women lower stress and prevent burnout through practices informed by culture and faith. Drawing on two decades of research, she launched the Living Rooted Retreat, a space for professional women to find balance and community. After joining The Center’s Digital Growth Accelerator, Dr. Armstrong successfully grew her audience and even sold out her most recent retreat.
